Finn Wiest’s ‘Aurora’ EP: A Sonic Masterpiece Blending Jazz Innovation and Breathtaking Rhythms

Finn Wiest

Today, Jukebox Time is featuring the sensational new EP from Young drummer Finn Wiest , an artist renowned for his breathtaking work. He returns with another mind-blowing collection titled Aurora along with Finn Wiest Quintet, a five-track journey that takes listeners on a unique sonic sojourn.

The EP opens with Old Kid, a track with a phenomenal arrangement that draws the listener into a deeply introspective space. The rhythms are smooth and subtle, layered with sublime tonalities that linger long after the song ends. Midway through, the transition is seamless, with rhythms blending cohesively with the bass—a testament to Finn Wiest’s meticulous craftsmanship.

Next, the title track Aurora begins with a mellow, heart-tugging vibe. The softer tones gradually take flight, infusing the track with a vibrant energy that merges rhythms into a singular harmony. The saxophone work is exquisite, evoking the soulful essence of classic jazz—a genre rooted in improvisation, emotional depth, and rhythmic complexity.

Waltz shifts the EP’s trajectory, trading mellowness for a steady, rhythmically balanced flow. The interplay of tones here is masterful, showcasing Finn Wiest’s artistry in blending structure with spontaneity.

Giga stands out as the EP’s creative pinnacle. Its upbeat energy highlights Finn’s experimental flair, weaving multi-genre tonalities into a fresh, innovative sound—something rarely heard in modern jazz, which often bridges tradition with avant-garde exploration. Finn Wiest transcends classical and contemporary norms, crafting a refreshing sonic realm that defies easy description. A subtle sax solo adds an unforgettable “aha” moment.

Closing the EP is Zu Viel, a minimal yet richly textured track that encapsulates the entire record’s essence. Each instrument tells its own story while blending into a grand, diverse soundscape—neither purely contemporary nor bound by convention. This makes Aurora an EP worth replaying, as we’ve done endlessly.

In an unprecedented move, we’ve added the entire EP to our official Spotify playlist—a testament to how much we admire this work. We highly recommend streaming it now: sip coffee on your porch, lose yourself in your earphones during a commute, or fill your living room with its stunning sound. However you listen, Finn Wiest’s Aurora is an experience not to be missed.
