Jukebox Time recently had the opportunity to listen to artist Zel?’s new album Mode de vie. And yes, today we are featuring his album. We were treated to a special sneak peek into his music and were allured by its magical tonality. Starting with “They Askin,” the single captivates us immediately. The intro is sensational and extremely powerful. The transitions are phenomenal as well. “Swag Musik” is another track with peppy beats and a stylish arrangement. The interspersing of varied tonality is achieved quite well in this track. “I’m The One” has an intro that utilizes riveting synth sounds. The vocals add vibrancy to the music, creating a tonal realm we didn’t experience in the previous three tracks. “HIT!” features a guitar riff ingrained with Zel?’s voice and abstract tonality. We are familiar with abstract colors, but the abstract sounds that Zel? sprinkles throughout exist on a different level.
“Drippin Overseas” is another vital track in the album with sensational beats and a riveting intro. The flow mingles with a synth sound that has a vibrancy of its own, making it an ideal transition in the overall album. “2ManyHoez” is spectacular with tones that we haven’t heard so far in Zel?’s offerings. The elements of the sound structure are lavish and captivating. His vocal tone slightly shifts from his signature style. “Lucid Activities” starts with lush synths and Zel?’s voice takes control, adding a tonality unlike anything we’ve heard. “Goin Crazy” showcases that the album is coming to an end. With a refreshing tonal spectrum, Zel? takes a trajectory from his previous tonal offerings. His transitions are now more sensible and adhere to conventional music, yet his ideal realm and signature tone are ingrained as usual.
“Too Much” is another track that does the same. The arrangement is unconventional, yet the more dispersed elements of the fascinating soundscape are also added to it. Lastly, the album ends with “2AM In Paris.” With impressive vocal tones, this seems like an ideal ending to the album. The dazzling element of beats is ingrained with remarkable audacity.
Overall, Zel’s 10-song album is an ideal offering that takes us on a journey. His style is unique, and his tonality is quite unforgettable. Add to that his signature flow, delivery, and vocal tone, which are magnificent and splendid in themselves. The most outstanding element in his album is the music that isn’t confined to any specific tonal realm. He sprinkles varied conventional and unorthodox sonic structures that only an artist of Zel?’s caliber can do.
“The creative process for this project was, in a way, the opposite of everything I am used to. It was truly a testament to my commitment to music, as it purposefully brought me out of my comfort zone in terms of my creative process.” – Zel?
Compared to his album Now and Forever, Mode de vie is more extravagant and experimental. And probably, that is where the real art lies—in the realm of experimentation and experimenting with something that probably existed in a different realm and was brought into this one.
