Jukebox Time got a chance to interview Danny Cole in regard to his book Stronger Than Failure. We got insights into his book, tips on cultivating empowering habits and much more!
Q. Welcome to Jukebox Time! How are you doing?
Danny Cole: I’m doing great. Thank you for the opportunity and for having me on the show.
Q. Your new book Stronger Than Failure is now available on Amazon. Please tell us about your wonderful book!
Danny Cole: Imagine how excited you would feel if you had the winning lottery ticket because you knew things were about to change in your life for the better? This book is the winning lottery ticket for people wanting to have a better life. Those wanting to overcome their past and limiting beliefs, and become the best versions of themselves; happier, and more successful in their business, relationships, and life.
My last book, Broken Crayons, I was a co-author of, and it gained me the title of international best-selling author, and because of how powerful this book is, I know this one is going to do the same thing.
There is nothing more powerful than a changed mind. You can change your clothes, your hairstyle, you can even change where you live, but if you do not change your mindset you will still get the same results you’ve always gotten. Stronger Than Failure, How to Overcome Your Past, Create More Happiness, and Become the Best Version of Yourself is a step by step guide on how to create a stronger than failure mindset and completely transform your life.
I want everyone listening to this show right now to be extremely happy and successful in every area of your life. Whatever your definitions of those words are. I wrote this book because everyone experiences tough times. No one is immune to the difficulties of life.
I’ve been there. I’ve been on food stamps as a kid and not having Christmases because your dad spent all the money on drugs. I’ve lived with not having confidence and been to shy to speak up for myself. I got picked on and bullied all the way up until freshman year of highschool because my right eye turned in and we were poor. I’ve had a baby that was still-born and drank and done drugs to fill the empty void. I’ve been through 3 divorces. I’ve lost my dad when I was in my twenties. I’ve had no money in my checking account and wondered where I was going to get my next meal. I’ve battled anxiety for years. My little brother battled heroin addiction. My mom, who is my best friend, is currently battling stage 4 cancer of the colon, stomach, liver, and lung. I get it. Life can be tough. But, it doesn’t have to rob us of happiness and success.
It’s not what we go through, but what we learn from what we go through, that will determine how successful we become. And your mindset will determine what you choose to learn from every situation.
Q. Any advice for cultivating new empowering habits?
Danny Cole: Success is nothing more than a few simple habits practiced every day. You are where you are in life right now because of the habits you have. People form habits and habits form people. But more importantly, habits form futures.
You are the kind of person you are because you formed the habits of being that person, and the only way to change it is by creating new habits.
So, to answer your question, you must first know what an empowering habit would be for you. For some, it may be creating the habit of reading 2 books a month so they can become an expert in their particular field. For others it may be the habit of exercising so they can drop weight and get into great physical condition. You must first think about what habit you need to become the best version of yourself.
Then, once you know what habit it is you need to create, and I can’t emphasize this part enough, start small. You must start small and stay consistent. Start with something so small you can’t so no to it. If you can’t say no to it, it will get done. For instance, if you want to do 50 push-ups, start by doing 5. And do 5 push-ups everyday. Why 5? Because you can’t say no to. And what we can’t say no to will get done. Five is easy and will take no more than 10 seconds to 1 minute, depending on your level of fitness, to complete. And by doing them everyday you are creating a new identity for yourself. You are becoming someone who does push-ups everyday. And once 5 becomes easy for you, you will begin to do more and more until you are doing your goal of 50 push-ups.
The most important factor in creating empowering habits is starting small and staying consistent.
Q. Kindly share some tips on how can one strengthen their mindset?
Danny Cole: This is a great question, because your mindset determines how happy or unhappy you are. It determines how successful or unsuccessful you are. It will determine if you see a world full of opportunities or obstacles.
I will give you 3 tips on how to create a stronger than failure mindset.
1. Do not look at situations as a test, with pass and fail grade attached to it. Look at them as experiments. What can you learn from them? You can only fail if you did not give something your all or if you did not learn from it.
For example, relationships. I have had my fair share of relationships and I will never say I failed at any of them. Some where better than others, some way better lol but, I never failed. Why? Because I am now in an amazing relationship and I would not be the man I am for her if I did not learn the lessons I needed to learn from the other relationships. I learned certain traits that I liked and didn’t like in women, what I needed to improve on with myself, what I would accept and what I wouldn’t. If you don’t know what you want, how will you know when you have it?
2. Become a rapid reframer. Learn how to look at situations from different perspectives. This is powerful and I go into more detail in the book. But, for example; if you are in sales and get mad or upset with yourself when someone tells you NO, reframe it. Tell yourself that, I have to get 10 No’s to get a yes, and then get excited about receiving the No because that means you are one No closer to a YES. Or, take the NO as a learning experience and ask yourself what you can learn from it. For instance you could learn that you need to practice on your presentation skills, or overcoming objections. Learn from the experience.
3. Have an attitude of gratitude. Everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Tony Robbins will tell you that having an attitude of gratitude is the key to happiness. If you are not first happy with what you have then it doesn’t matter how much you accumulate in the future, you will never be satisfied. You must first be grateful for what you currently have. Begin by naming 5 things you are grateful for in the morning before you leave the house. Be creating this habit you will rewire your brain begin to notice more things to be grateful for. And by noticing things to be grateful for everyday you are increasing your level of happiness and ultimately attracting more things to be grateful for into your life.
Q. What’s next? Which book are you working on now?
Danny Cole: Right now I am promoting the new book and focusing on my coaching clients. There is nothing more rewarding, for me, than helping others to find clarity and improving their lives. And with this book and my coaching I am doing what I love.
Q. Finally, as we ask all our guests on Jukebox Time, do you have any closing thoughts that you would like to share with the world and our readers?
Danny Cole: Yes. Remember, it’s not what you go through, but what you learn from what you go through and with a stronger than failure mindset you can overcome your past, create more happiness, and live a life you love waking up to everyday.
